Bij de meeste mensen wordt het virus vanzelf door het lichaam opgeruimd, maar als dat niet gebeurt kan het virus later bepaalde soorten kanker veroorzaken, zoals baarmoederhalskanker. Het vaccin werkt het beste als je kind nog niet met HPV in aanraking is geweest.<sup> 1<\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p\n    class=\"mh-paragraph mh-paragraph--383eecda23e8ef5d71349702ff34b848\"\n    >\n    HPV wordt meestal door seksueel contact overgedragen. Het kan gebeuren tijdens vaginale, anale of orale seks, maar ook door huid-op-huid contact tijdens seks.<sup>1<\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n<hr class=\"mh-spacer mh-spacer--aa588d17dfcd1f14da1a51e713e1310e\" het vaccin zijn opgenomen. Je kind haalt de prikken in twee keer: de tweede prik volgt een half jaar na de eerste. Beide prikken worden in de bovenarm gegeven. De vaccinatie is gratis via het Rijksvaccinatieprogramma voor alle kinderen tot 18 jaar.<sup>7<\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p\n    class=\"mh-paragraph mh-paragraph--abc3a1e6cfbc19038214bb84fe690665\"\n    >\n    Eerder de uitnodiging gemist of niet op ingegaan? Geen probleem. Meisjes \u00e9n jongens krijgen de uitnodiging in het jaar dat ze 10 worden.<sup>7<\/sup> HPV kan bij zowel mannen als vrouwen bepaalde soorten kanker veroorzaken, en andere aandoeningen zoals genitale wratten.<sup>1<\/sup> Door ook jongens te vaccineren wordt de verspreiding van het virus verder beperkt en helpt het hen beschermen tegen de gevolgen van HPV.<sup>7,9<\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n<hr class=\"mh-spacer mh-spacer--05e3702d509c31d0a74e6afbf665d273\" aria-hidden=\"true\" \/>\n\n\n<h3  class=\"mh-heading mh-heading--6b3d21052be22ca8f5a02c1a64699cf4\"><strong>Heeft je kind de uitnodiging (nog) niet ontvangen?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n<p\n    class=\"mh-paragraph mh-paragraph--7269697f103f7410ef9c4d2b821ad789\"\n    >\n    Kinderen die de uitnodiging (nog) niet hebben gekregen of gemist hebben, kunnen zich tot hun 18e verjaardag gratis laten vaccineren.
